Damn!

I am a big fan of Eminem, and I'm also a Black Woman. I consider Eminem to be one of the best rappers ever, and THE best White rapper. He's right up there with Biggie, Tupac, and Jay Z. So, when I heard the news of him being accused of racism, I was heart broken. The lyrics, according to the Source are "And all the girls that I like to bone/Have the big butts, no they don't/ Cause I don't like that n-gger sh-t/ I'm just here to make a bigger hit ... Blacks and whites they sometimes mix/But Black girls only want your money cause they're dumb chicks/So I'mma say like this/Don't date a Black girl, take it as a diss/if you want, but if you don't/I'mma tell you like this, I surely won't/Never date a black girl because Blacks only want your money/ and that sh-t ain't funny ... Black girls and white girls just don't mix/Because Black girls are dumb and white girls are good chicks." The Source Magazine brought the long lost tapes to light. Benzino, co-owner/founder of the Source has had a vendetta against Eminem for some time now. He's accused Eminem of being a "culture stealer", "rapping Hitler" and a "modern day Elvis". He's been accused of being all of these things because he's 1. a White rapper, 2. a White successful rapper, and 3. because he's a damn good White rapper. I've never understood how Benzino could diss Eminem because he's a White rapper, especially because 1. he's half White, and 2. the other co-owner of The Source, Dave Mays, he's White. To me, the whole beef between Eminem and The Source is very stupid. Talent is talent, I would never deny the fact that Celine Dion can sing, all because she's White. Nor, would I deny the fact that Teena Marie, Michael McDonald, and The Average White Band can sing. All of these people have talent, and them being White doesn't lessen the fact that they have talent. Eminem has talent, the new song that he produced with Biggie and Tupac is a definite hit. Eminem says that he made the tape out of anger, and stupidity. Listening to his raps of nowadays, he has NEVER to my acknowledgement said the word Nigger. Even while rapping with other Black rappers who've used the word in the same song. To me, that's not the sign of a racist. A true racist, couldn't tolerate being around Black people, or any other minority, for long periods of time, and never could they imagine having one as their boss, like Dr. Dre is to Eminem. Eminem has earned the respect of some of the top rappers in the country, like Jay Z Busta Rymes, and Mos Def among others. I think one of the reason why the Source picks on Eminem, is because Benzino is a has been. I can't think of one song that he's ever made. To garner publicity he went after Eminem, after Eminem's been on the cover a couple of times, and after they've reviewed his album, and gave it positive reviews. They also said that Eminem is taking away cd sales that Black rappers could have. I disagree with that, for 1. if someone wants to buy a cd, they will. I hardly doubt some kid would go to the store to buy Eminem, and then not buy another rappers cd because he's Black. Let's be serious, White people buy the most rap cd's, so how can they dis this White boy, and expect White people to support them? It didn't, and still doesn't make sense to me. I believe Eminem, I believe he made the tape out of stupidity, anger, and maybe heartache. I don't believe that he's a racist, if he was a racist, the first thing in my opinion, he would've done once he made it big, and got his own record label, was find some other White boy who could rap. Instead, he found 50 cent (Black) D12 (Black) and Obie Trice (Black), and I don't think he produced them to make a quick buck off of them. I truly believe that Eminem has a love for hip-hop that rivals some Black rappers, I believe that he IS NOT a racist, I also belive that like many others in history, he has a admiration for the Black culture. Admiration, doesn't mean culture stealer. As a human being who has made plenty, and I do me plenty of mistakes, I forgive him for his mistake. To Eminem, apologize, and rock on!

ugh. I really hate most of the media. i have heard a lot of rap songs that slam on white people. (And, considering one of my black room mates in college once told me: "Girl, you are the whitest white girl I 'ave ever seen!" you can assume I am white). Anyway, the point is, I don't care. It's music. It's verbal ramblings portraying the current events in the writers life. Maybe he had just gotten dumped by the love of his life who was black, so he got so ticked off that he wrote that song. Who cares? Does it really matter? The media does not help the battle against racism one bit. They point it out all the time. Maybe if they didn't have people ticked off all the time, that there wouldn't be as much segregation. I could care less if somebody is white, black, tan or purple. It's what they *do* that matters, anyway.

I enjoy Eminems music. It is very different and has a definite style. He rhymes things that shouldn't rhyme. Too bad he's getting a bum rap. Hopefully it will all just blow over. Considering that he grew up in the city of "Motown" music, I'm not sure how he could not be influenced by black musicians and have an appreciation for them.

It's funny how you mentioned black rappers using the word "nigger". The first time that I was introduced to a black friend of mine, he was introduced as "nigger friend Phil". He wasn't offended by his friend calling him that, because it was just a word. Of course, Phil called his white friends nigger all the time, too. It's just a word. It all depends on how you use it, and if it is intended to offend somebody.

I have no idea where I am going with this now, so I'll just shut up........

I like your articles, BTW. I hope you continue to write them.

Aww, thank you. I agree with you, racism is the cancer of society, and it's eating us alive. My next article will be on the N word. Thank you, and let me know when you write a article. Jeremy, I will look out for your article on Eminem.

there is no point in asking people to change if we won't forgive their mistakes
